Squalene is a natural substance produced by our own bodies. In fact, about 10-12% of our skin surface is made of squalene at birth. However, its concentration goes down as we get older and this is why a topical application is so important. Squalene in its natural state isn’t very stable, which is why, for skin-care purposes, it goes through a saturation process to become squalane.
