What is Squalane, and What Are Its Benefits for Your Skin.

What is Squalane, and What Are Its Benefits for Your Skin.

Squalene is a natural substance produced by our own bodies. In fact, about 10-12% of our skin surface is made of squalene at birth. However, its concentration goes down as we get older and this is why a topical application is so important.

Squalene in its natural state isn’t very stable, which is why, for skin-care purposes, it goes through a saturation process to become squalane.

For decades, squalane was derived from the livers of deep sea sharks, but thankfully it is now derived from olives, rice bran, and wheat germ. At MÉRV, we use squalane that is derived from olive oil.

Hydrated skin is healthy skin. So, when applied topically, squalane has tremendous benefits! Because the body produces this substance naturally, the skin readily receives the oil; it is lightweight enough for all skin types and will never feel heavy or greasy on the skin.

Squalane has skin hydrating properties that makes it extremely effective in softening skin and helping to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

This wonderful ingredient can be found in our Dewy Day Glow face oil!
