Here is Why Tea Tree Oil is Trending in Skincare

Tea tree oil has become a trendy new ingredient in natural skincare and it has gained a reputation as nature’s do-it-all secret weapon. This highly sought after essential oil comes from the leaves of a species of tree called Melaleuca alternifolia, which grows in Australia.

Aborigines of Australia were the first to use tea tree leaves as medicine, crushing them and applying them to skin infections and bug bites. It wasn’t until the 1920s that research was done regarding tea tree oil’s medicinal effects.

So far, researchers have identified around 100 different components in tea tree oil, including molecules called terpenes that seem to exhibit antimicrobial properties. There is a lot of interest surrounding one active ingredient called terpinen-4-ol. Researchers are investigating tea tree oil’s capacity to kill a variety of microorganisms on the skin thanks to elements like terpenes.

Currently, there is some evidence that the antibacterial properties of tea tree oil may be helpful in treating a variety of skin conditions. Let’s dive into how tea tree oil can be used to help alleviate some of these skin conditions.

Acne

According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), tea tree oil contains some antibacterial properties that could kill bacteria associated with acne. In addition, based on research done by the International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents (IJAA), the effectiveness of tea tree oil for reducing the appearance of acne may be attributed to its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.

Oily skin

The antiseptic properties of tea tree oil helps to combat oily skin and has the ability to help lift excess oil out of skin pores, unclogging them leading to an improvement in skin health and visibility.

Dry skin

Tea tree oil can also soothe dry skin by helping to reduce itching and irritation. Its moisturizing properties soothe and help prevent dryness on the skin by letting it stay hydrated and refreshed at all times.

Tea tree oil is a key ingredient in our Deep Nourish Oasis oil, which is made with a pure blend of plant-based oils, leaving the skin remarkably supple, soft, and moisturized.
