5 Ways to Keep Your Skin Hydrated in the Summer

5 Ways to Keep Your Skin Hydrated in the Summer

Summer is finally here and it is hotter than it has ever been before (well, at least here in Vancouver). During the summer, it gets more difficult to keep the skin healthy, protected and hydrated because of the harsh rays of the sun. The heat can often dehydrate the skin; and dryness, heat rashes, and acne are common problems in this hot season. At this time of year, it’s vital to keep on top of your skincare routine.

Here are five rituals you can include in your beauty routine to keep your skin healthy and hydrated during the summer:

1 - Skip the steamy showers. Hot showers can actually strip your skin of moisture, leaving it dry. That's why it's best to go for the cold shower instead.

Washing your face with cold water affects your skin in many positive ways such as helping to prevent acne and regulating oil levels.

2 - Use a hydrating toner that contains glycerin. Glycerin is a humectant and it attracts water; it is a moisturizer that actually attracts more moisture.

Using products with this super hydrating agent (such as our Garden Rose Toner) will leave your skin with an overall moisturizing and smoothing effect.

3 - Make sure to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen every single day. Sun exposure can dehydrate your skin, causing it to lose its moisture and break down its collagen.

4 - When your skin is damp, apply a lightweight facial oil to make sure all the moisture is locked in. This will keep your skin hydrated for hours.

Our Dewy Day Glow face oil is crafted to be super lightweight with a thin texture that absorbs quickly, making it ideal to use during the day.

5 - Make sure your makeup is lightweight and noncomedogenic. Check the label of your makeup products and make sure they don't contain ingredients that are likely to clog pores.
